Introduction of project coordinator

i-TRIBOMAT Intelligent Open Test Bed for Materials Tribological Characterisation Services project received funding from the European Union’s Horizon 2020 research and innovation programme under grant agreement No. 814494.

The i-TRIBOMAT project was launched in January 2019 in a Kick-Off meeting held in Brussels, where project consortium partners met with the EC Project Officer. We have gathered 23 representatives of our 10 partners to discuss project organisation details, work plan and related timeline as a foundation of the work to be realized in the upcoming four years.

The Project Officer from European Commission provided us valuable information on all the administrative and programme related obligations and recommendations from EC.

i-TRIBOMAT objectives, facts and figures

Our vision is to provide the world’s first Open Innovation Test Bed dedicated to validating and up-scaling new materials, thereby enabling intelligent Tribological Materials Characterisation and fostering industrial innovation in the European manufacturing industry.

i-TRIBOMAT integrates the most important tribological testing facilities at EU level with user-driven IT tools to validate new materials for components to facilitate the intelligent tribological materials characterisation.

The ultimate goal of i-TRIBOMAT is to reduce costs and time-to-market, when up-scaling materials.

1st semi-annual consortium meeting in Vienna successfully completed

The semi-annual consortium meeting of i-TRIBOMAT project (Intelligent Open Test Bed for Materials Tribological Characterisation Services, GA 814494, www.i-tribomat.eu) was hosted in June 2019 by coordinators in the heart of Vienna, in the facilities of the Austrian Economic Chambers (WKO).

Consortium meeting

Representatives from consortium partners gathered in this 2-days-meeting to discuss the work progress and were actively engaged in analysing the technical, structural, organisational and administrative issues present in the i-TRIBOMAT project.

Consortium meeting

We have also used the time to socialize together and get the taste of Viennese summer gardens and traditional Viennese cuisine.

After the successful termination of progress meeting, most of consortium partners joined the European conference ECOTRIB 2019 (7th European Conference on Tribology, June 12-14th, 2019) held at the same venue. Our colleague from AC2T presented i-TRIBOMAT project and major concepts and objectives that will be developed and brought to market. This presentation caught the attention of several participants representing their SMEs showing the interest in i-TRIBOMAT and the initial contact was made.

Special i-TRIBOMAT session at the 22nd International Colloquium Tribology Conference (TAE)

i-TRIBOMAT held a special session at the 22nd International Colloquium Tribology conference, organised by Technische Akademie Esslingen, held on January 29, from 11:00 to 17:00. It was our first “all-star” debut among tribology community and we were very excited to demonstrate our ideas and strengths to the stakeholders community.

The i-TRIBOMAT presentations were divided into 3 sessions, tackling the major objectives and focuses of our dedicated activities towards building the unique Open Innovation Test Bed for tribological material characterization.

As expected, i-TRIBOMAT fellows had a lot of discussions with variety of leading industry players and professionals from academia. Our presentations initiated a dialogue towards finding the new development solutions for challenges in the tribological materials characterization field. With this i-TRIBOMAT “all-star” debut we gained a valuable insight on the possible translators of our services to build a sustainable business through cooperation with key players.

1st Project review meeting with EC

We are currently preparing for the project review meeting with Project Officer and external expert to review our technical progress for the first 18 months of the project. The aim of this technical review by independent expert is to assess the work carried out under the action and provide recommendations to the European Commission. Due to the pandemic situation, the meeting will be held online, in a whole day teleconference.

As a preparation, we are intensively working on the presentations per WP and tasks, recording all the dissemination and communication activities conducted in the period.
